astraanopsia:

Believe it or not, this was the girl’s idea of a bizarre olive branch. She didn’t hate Wendy. She didn’t even dislike her. But coldness came with the territory, and she was sworn not to lie.

But she would be lying if she said Wendy’s kindness did not strike some sort of chord with her, a weird one, one that made her brain almost hurt when she tried to wrap her mind around it.

And a part of her wanted Wendy to understand that. To understand it wasn’t because she wanted too, it was she had too. Because good people don’t end up in Gravity Falls, not now, not ever.

“Don’t tell me you don’t know.” Huh, maybe she didn’t. “I almost died. Instead I went blind. But they left this-” she prodded it again, “-here for some reason. Not sure why.” she shrugged.

Was Wendy supposed to know? Honestly, she didn’t remember much from before her mother had died. But the way Lulu replied—as if it was so obvious—made Wendy feel inexplicably guilty for not knowing.

”I don’t know.” The simple phrase was out before she could stop herself; why did she always feel the need to defend herself against Lulu? The accusation hit something deep inside Wendy. Did everyone know and she was just too oblivious? Wendy knew she was often in her own world, but it stung to think that she might be even less aware than she thought.

Now she felt more than a little awful for not knowing Lulu’s story, but she was grateful that Lulu was even bothering to explain to her. “Thanks for telling me,” she mumbled awkwardly. She was never good with emotional talks, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t try her hardest. “I, uh…I really appreciate being in the know.”
